MAN'S AMBITIONS

ALL SONGS WRITTEN, ARRANGED, AND PRODUCED BY MAXIM WURTHERZ

1. MAN MAKER FOR A DAY

The man maker is anything and everything that imposes growth on a human being. This accumulation of energy, it follows us for our entire life. I made this when I was on my Pharrell inspired production run. I wanted this simple call on response with the synth and the bass playing alongside each other. Then, taking an old dum beat I originally made for Adonte, it tied the whole song together.

2. PURE BODY PARANOIA

Featuring Deli Lloyd. It was our first session together and admittedly, I was nervous. I brought this idea forward of personifying paranoia as this being that follows you around where eventually we had to face it. I started laying down chords and a drum beat, building the entire song that same day. The swells of vocal harmonies at the very end always left me breathless. Definitely one of my personal favorites.

3. CONTEMPLATION

Grant was looking for some Dilla type beats for a video and I made the beat right then and there. I never really had the idea of the beat becoming a full song but I couldn't let it go to the side. The sample was dug up from one of my older unreleased songs that I hope to release in the future. I'd say this was one of the more fun songs to make. I really was stressin' about the hook though. I went through about four different types until I settled on the one.

4. DON'T KNOW WHY

Additional voices by Don Lee and Deli Lloyd.  Coming back from the GNX tour, hearing Kendrick mix “m.A.A.d City” with “Sweet Love” I almost cried. The way he recontextualized it into this power anthem, I had to somehow channel that energy. And so I quite literally took Sweet Love and made it my own. Don brought a type of yearning energy to the Hook that I was trying my best to capture but it had to be him. Along with Deli coming through again to glue the harmonies together, I feel like I achieved one of my first true RnB anthems with this one.

5. FREE MAN RATIONALE

Kendrick Lamar. "Untitled 04" My god. Thundercat's bass line was the whole idea for the beat. Taking those chords and channeling it into the piano and the bass. Those haunting vocals, Every vibe of that song I wanted to capture into this one. I've really came out of my shell this year and with that, came a lot of questioning of who I am and how I'm doing. "Tell me how I've been last night." I almost lose myself and move without thinking whenever it comes to any function. All I hope is that people feel and understand my energy.

6. MORE WONDERS

This song right here, this been in the vault for almost three years. I modeled it after Kanye's "I Wonder" I've been writing verse, after verse, after VERSE to finally get it right. I also serve this song as a growth of my music production as well. I had to shave off a lot of noise on this one just to keep the identity intact and concise. In the end, I'm happy to finally release this one out in the wild. One of the good few from my starting days on Logic that made it out of the vault. Thank you time for always changing us.

7. MAN'S AMBITIONS

I carved this song out while I was off in LA for a trip away from home. Since I had no midi's to work with, I opted for looking through my vault and repurposing a project that just had me and the piano playing. I chopped it up with this strikin' piano preset and added some drums to it. That was honestly it for a while. It was meant to be a closing for another bigger album that I plan on making, but the energy it gave just felt like it had it's own story to tell. Thus became "Man's Ambitions" The focal point for the theme and messaging for the album.
